Letchworth Village, part three

The majority of the following photos are of a building in Letchworth Village that has suffered a series of fires.  Part of the entry hall smells of charred wood still and there is rubble about from a ceiling collapse.  An interesting blend of both water and fire damage can be seen in the structural collapse of what used to house a movie theater and common areas for the village residents.

The Yellow House, remembered.

Gentle reader:
As you may or may not be aware, The Yellow House was one of my favorite sites.  That is correct, was.  Traveling back there today to document the further decline of the manse, I was dismayed to find a port-a-potty and construction fencing blocking my way.  This can only mean one thing with abandoned structures: demolition. The state has finally called checkmate on one of the crumbling houses I frequent.  Even vacant buildings in the middle of the woods have shelf lives.

For photos on what it used to look like, see entry on The Yellow House.  Rest in pieces.

Letchworth Village, part two

Letchworth Village, as previously mentioned, was subject to some counts of arson in addition to natural decay.  The following photographs are 35mm, shot on a Hikari SLR.

The Gingerbread Castle

The Gingerbread Castle was built in the 1920's by Joseph Urban, an architect.  Capturing the feel of childhood fairy stories, the Castle rose in shades of candy colors, attracting children from all over until it's close in the 1970's.  Falling into disrepair despite the efforts of the previous owner, The Gingerbread Castle is a pale shadow of it's former self.  Greeted by climbing vines, crumbling stairs, the smell of damp, and faded pink paint, I stared up from the bottom of the wishing well, hoping this once grand roadside attraction would not fade into obscurity. The current owners of The Gingerbread Castle are trying to get the structure on the registry of historic places, with plans for revitalization.
