Nothing compares to the former glory of an aging Kirkbride building. The afternoon sun filtered through the holes in the ceilings, casting shadows on peeling paint. Chairs sat arranged for group therapies amid the dust and grit. I made my way through the corridors, marveling at the magnitude of the building. Sadly, the Kirkbride building at the New Jersey State Hospital for The Insane may not see another year, as the ruins are slated for demolition despite efforts of local groups dedicated to historical preservation.
