In a previous post, I detailed the Tock's Island Damn Project and the demise of some structures and residences related to that. The backwoods of northwestern New Jersey hide some more houses left over from the government buyout that preceded the failed project. Now these farmhouses are left to the elements, weathering the years gracefully. A rainy day in December found me in the wilds, surrounded by other people's memories and the debris of animals that call this place home.

This was all going on when I was in grammar school. It was the Environmentalists who saved the day.So many people were angry and bitter ,having to give up the houses they grew up in.Rightly so.
ReplyDeleteAt the top of the trail before Sunfish pond there is a sign in memory of the movement which created the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area. which go's all of the way to High Point State Park.
I have hiked the area many times.
